Featuring Galaxy Guardian and Winter Soldier
It was a dark and cloudy morning as the two bay colts were led onto the track. A light drizzle of rain was the remainder of last night's storm, making the dirt track wet and muddy. Winter Soldier and Galaxy Guardian stayed close together, their ears swiveling and nostrils flaring, clearly excited to run. The jockeys aboard the two juveniles held the reins tight as they received workout instructions from the trainer. After a few minutes passed, the horses were ready to load. Galaxy Guardian went in without hesitation, trusting his rider completely. Winter Soldier, on the other hand, required a bit of coaxing with a few slices of carrot. The horses stood stock still until the gates swung open, allowing the colts to show off their talent.
Winter Soldier broke sloppily, but instantly took the lead along the rail. Galaxy Guardian started rather well, and took up second place behind Bucky. The two colts remained at a steady pace throughout, though Winter Soldier was definitely not liking the muddy conditions. As they reached the final stretch, Galaxy Guardian immediately made his move, challenging Winter Soldier to keep up with him. The dark bay colt kept advancing. Winter Soldier was finally turning gears as the two horses ran head to head. They passed the wire, and Rocket had won by a nose. The jockeys slowed the colts down to a canter, then a trot. The jockeys consulted the trainer, who gave them a big smile. Winter Soldier and Galaxy Guardian were both ready for a real race.
